There's plenty about him that's very interesting though - although he more or less founded the KKK, he also denounced it before he died, which is more than most of it members ever do ;-).
Sensadrome - I was watching The Civil War, a documentary of PBS about two months ago, Sherman and others call him one of the great geniuses of the war. I chose the Forrest image for that reason. Also, I'm aware that he's a controversial figure and wanted to see if anyone would recognize his image. So, congrats you win the prize for being most observant.
However, let me be clear, I loath racism of all kinds and don't wish to associate myself with Forrest's record in anyway.
Also, it never occurred to me until I read your message yesterday that my friends on this site are, by association, impacted by my avatar. While I may enjoy courting a bit of controversy I know appreciate that this may make some people uncomfortable. For that reason, I'll probably change the image soon.
